College slams changes to apprentice funding rules

Chesterfield College is fighting Government plans to radically change how apprenticeships are funded and provided.

Funding for programmes currently goes to agencies and colleges but the reforms would see cash go to employers in the form of tax relief, who would then pay providers.

The college argues this means firms will have to contribute up front to the cost of training, which will result in fewer places.
