Cold snap stops evening market
FREEZING weather has forced the postponement of Sheffield’s first night market - due to have gone ahead in Barkers Pool yesterday evening.
The event will now go ahead on Wednesday, April 11, with the aim of then holding it every month.
The market, aimed at small businesses and craftspeople, was due to run from 8am to 9pm. The rescheduled event will instead take place from 3pm to 9pm.
Co-organiser James Peterson said 30 stalls had been booked but many stallholders had urged a postponement.
“Understandably they were not happy about the prospect of standing out for 13 hours in zero or near zero temperatures,” he said.
“But they do want it to go ahead in the spring and on that basis we are expecting all 50 stalls to be booked up. And we hope that will pave the way for a regular monthly event from thereon.”
