Coffee seller’s plans opposed by rival firm
A COFFEE seller’s plans to trade on a street in Sheffield city centre have been opposed by owners of a nearby cafe.
Oliver Coppard, whose Caffe Cucina business is run from an old-fashioned trike and sells hot and cold drinks and cold food, wants to trade at the top of Howard Street, across the road from the Millennium Gallery.
“Caffe Cucina is a new concept for the Sheffield food and beverage market.
“It will offer the very best in fresh roasted Italian coffees and cold drinks, alongside continentally-inspired gourmet sandwiches and sundries, all sold from a unique, classically-styled, bicycle-based mobile coffee cart,” he said.
But the street trading licence has upset owners of coffee shop Roast, at the top of Howard Street.
In a statement to Sheffield Council, the shop’s owner said: “Coffee contributed 24 per cent to my sales this year and a loss in these as well as the current climate where every customer counts could well mean my business becomes unviable.”
Richard Eyre, head of city centre management and major events, said the tricycle should be located further down Howard Street.
The application will be discussed by Sheffield Council’s licensing board on Thursday.
