Sheffield department store John Lewis has created 61 jobs as it prepares for a busy Christmas.
The retailer in Barker’s Pool has taken on new staff to help customers over the festive season, as it gears up for the Christmas rush.
Huey Barber, who joined the Sheffield store as a temporary Christmas sales assistant last year, now has a full-time job there.
He said: “Joining as a Christmas temp meant I learnt so much in a small space of time within a busy and fast-paced environment.
“When a permanent position became available, I jumped at the chance.”
The recently hired employees will cover a number of departments including furnishing accessories, homeware, electricals and the John Lewis Christmas shop.
Sheffield store bosses said they will train all the temporary staff to achieve the same high levels of customer service that led to the company winning a ‘Best Retailer 2013’ award from consumer watchdog Which?
John Lewis Sheffield personnel manager Elizabeth Huston said: “Whether you’re helping a customer find the perfect present for a loved one or advising on table decorations for Christmas dinner, a customer’s experience while in the store needs to be as smooth as possible.”
Bosses at John Lewis are quietly confident they will once again outperform the market, as they have done for the last five years.
But James Prince, managing director at John Lewis Sheffield, added although they are confident they are ‘never complacent’.
