Business to deliver booze to doorsteps in Sheffield

A trainee teacher’s plan to set up a business delivering alcohol to the doors of drinkers in Sheffield has been met with a wave of opposition.

More than 100 people have signed a petition urging the city council to reject an application which would allow website Drinks-Now.com to operate from an office space in Chippinghouse Road off Abbeydale Road.

The unit will be used to store alcohol, including large beer kegs, which are delivered straight to drinkers’ homes after being ordered online.

Proposals have been submitted by Christopher Gascoigne, aged 25, of Gleadless, who is training to be an English teacher at Sheffield Hallam University.

He said: “I thought of the business while working in America during the summer teaching children.

“There, house parties are preferred over going out on most occasions.

“The business’ main aims and goals are to provide Sheffield with a pre-drink and party delivery service.”

If the application is given the green light at Sheffield Council’s licensing sub-committee meeting today, Drinks-Now.com would operate from 5pm until 2am from Tuesday to Friday, and from 3pm until 2am on Saturdays.

But a large number of residents fear late-night trading will cause disruption in a peaceful suburb.

Chippinghouse Road resident Nadim Zamah said: “This peaceful suburb will be disrupted by deliveries and an establishment selling alcohol.”
