THERE’S a new girl in town, and she means business!
I am, of course, referring to the appointment of The Star’s own award-winning columnist Jo Davison, who has accepted my challenge to liven up our business coverage.
We pride ourselves on making sure we’re holding business leaders to account, whist showcasing to the rest of the country and beyond just how big a player in global economics Sheffield really is.
But between the bricks of business is its mortar - the people - and Jo has made her intentions clear from the start of her tenure: Star Business will be about companies’ biggest asset - the people.
Jo, who comes with 36 years’ journalism experience said: “In each issue, we will be featuring the latest news, on-the-pulse lifestyle and issue-led features from the business community, plus the background stories and views of South Yorkshire’s movers and shakers, entrepreneurs and small businesses.
“I will be looking for the lively and incisive human interest angles that will engage and inform readers from all walks of life. I want to know about the trials and tribulations behind the success stories for How I Made it, and the dynamics of how husbands and wives, fathers and sons and generations of the same family work together for Family Fortunes, which are among the new regular features you will find as you turn the pages of this month’s issue.
“I also hope to shine the light on the local business community’s female fraternity, a vibrant, entrepreneurial sector which greatly deserves to share the spotlight often dominated by their male counterparts.

And under the watchful eye of our newly promoted Business Editor David Walsh, they have delivered - and then some!
So if you might ordinarily think: ‘Oh that business stuff is a bit starchy for me, I’m not going to bother,’ then think again and get your nose into the Business Monthly pages in tomorrow’s Sheffield Star (Wednesday 7th May).
