MOTORISTS in South Yorkshire are being urged to take care in strong winds today - after a gust of more than 70mph was recorded along the Woodhead Pass.
The top deck of the Tinsley viaduct on the M1 is currently closed to high-sided vehicles, as is the Woodhead Pass. A wind speed of 72mph was recorded yesterday afternoon along the A628.
Vulnerable vehicles are also advised to avoid the M1 at junction 32 - where the motorway joins the M18.
The Highways Agency has put an amber weather warning in place for much of the north of England, and extra traffic patrols and recovery vehicles are being deployed at locations which might be affected by cross winds.
The weather warning is in place until around 7pm.
