A Doncaster village could have a new sub-post office this summer, local MP Ed Miliband has been told.
The Doncaster North MP contacted the Post Office after being told the Sprotbrough branch, on Thorpe Lane will close on May 10.
He told officials the service was important to the village – and asked them to clarify the situation.
They have responded to say the “vacancy has been advertised” and that “interest has already been received”.
However no new location or potential re-opening date has been revealed.
Mr Miliband said: “The village post office is valued by residents and there has been some concern locally about its future. The main issue is that Sprotbrough has a continued postal service, wherever its location.
“The Post Office have now offered assurances that the matter is being looked at and a service could well be in place by the summer.”
A Post Office official said: “The current situation is that following the sub-postmaster’s resignation, we are no longer able to use the premises. The vacancy has been advertised and although it is early days, we are encouraged that interest has already been received and this is currently progressing through our application and recruitment process.”
