Trainees from Sheffield College have scooped two awards at a construction contest.
The apprentices headed to Vision West Nottinghamshire College for the first round of national construction competition SkillBuild 2014.
More than 100 construction trainees battled it out in their chosen trade, with skills such as bricklaying, wall and floor tiling and painting and decorating put to the test.
Sheffield College trainees proved themselves to be the cream of the crop, winning two categories.
Charlie Richards, aged 25, won the carpentry category and 17-year-old Elliott Hague came top in joinery.
The top 10 competitors from the 14 heats go through to the national final at the Skills Show at Birmingham’s NEC in November.
The competition is supported by the Construction Industry Training Board, the Sector Skills Council and Industry Training Board for the construction industry.
Catherine Bullough, of CITB, said: “SkillBuild is all about the way people are setting out on their construction career.”
