BUSINESS bosses have welcomed news that work is to go ahead on a £150 million scheme to improve the M1 through South Yorkshire early next year.

The Highways Agency has announced the stretch between junction 32 at Thurcroft and 35a near Chapeltown will become a ‘managed motorway’.

Under the change, the hard shoulder will be opened as a fourth lane at peak times, when reduced speed limits will apply.
