AN OVERHAUL of Sheffield’s bus network comes into force at the weekend with numerous changes to routes and service numbers.
The ‘SimpliCity’ Sheffield Bus Partnership will begin from Sunday, and will see a range of new tickets created which can be used on all operators’ services.
Key changes in Sheffield include the withdrawal of the number 7 bus, meaning areas of Norfolk Park will now depend on the Supertram only.
Meanwhile, the 1 and 2a outer circle service and bus 39 to Chancet Wood will both be replaced by changes to service 17.
The 72 city centre to Shirecliffe service ceases. Some new services will be launched, including a number 13 from the city centre to High Green via Hillsborough.
Services along Psalter Lane, Nether Edge, and to Ringinglow - which were originally set to be axed - are being retained after protests by residents on the routes.
Improvements include a new 83a bus service through Nether Green, which will run every 20 minutes instead of hourly at present.
Many other routes will have timetable changes.
Alterations will also affect services in Barnsley and Rotherham from the weekend.
In Barnsley, there will be an improved frequency timetable for Stagecoach service X19 between Barnsley and Doncaster, additional Sunday journeys on Redline services 6A, 11A, 43A, 58, 58A, and additional evening journeys on Stagecoach service X28.
Rotherham service changes include new journeys from Rotherham to Maltby on First service 2 and Brinsworth on First service 35 - which replaces some journeys on part of service 32 - plus revised timetables on the 32, 33 and X14.
