Little Chef is closing a third of its restaurants

A ROADSIDE restaurant group based in Sheffield is set to axe about a quarter of its workforce by shutting nearly 70 of its cafes.

Little Chef, which has its headquarters off Brightside Lane, Carbrook, has announced plans to shut 67 of its 161 restaurants, meaning up to 600 people could lose their jobs and leaving a workforce of about 1,500.

The firm says the sites earmarked for closure are not profitable.

The company was saved in 2007 by turnaround group RCapital when it fell into administration.
