YOUNG Sheffield entrepreneurs are to be given the chance to land up to £5,000 backing for their business plans as part of a project launching on Friday.
Eleven to 25-year-olds can also win a £500 cash award and be given a golden opportunity to work with a world class mentor.
The event, titled Entrepreneurs on Challenge, is part of the city council’s LearnFest and is being backed by rising business star Adam Bradford.
Adam started his career through Sheffield’s Big Challenge competition six years ago at the age of 14.
His successes attracted more than £10,000 in prize money, mentorship from Reggae Reggae sauce entrepreneur Levi Roots and a place as one of Peter Jones’ personally selected National Ambassadors.
Adam’s work in enterprise and inspiring young people continues, as he now works with charity Live UnLtd providing access to cash grants and support for young social enterprises.
He said: ‘I’m really pleased to be able to give young people a platform to make a success of themselves.
“Self-employment is now regarded as a truly viable option for today’s youth, who can put their talents to good use and pioneer for the next generation.
“This scheme will start right here in my home town.
“LearnFest is a unique opportunity for young people in Sheffield to really create their own careers with the good forces in Sheffield employers and businesses providing access to training, skills and experiences.”
The programme will tour the country in 2013, stopping next in London.
Youth participation worker Louis Howell, aged 19, is heavily involved in bringing the programme to life in conjunction with young people.
He said: “If ever there was a more worthwhile challenge then I’m yet to be informed. For any young person who needs that extra bit of motivation to make things happen in their life then Entrepreneurs on Challenge is certainly for them.”
