Ask4 provides safety net for RiPWIRE customers

Leading Sheffield-based Internet Service Provider Ask4 has stepped in to maintain superfast broadband connections for customers of RiPWIRE, after the Rotherham company announced it had ceased trading.

Both companies use the fibre optic network set up by the £90 million Digital Region project to create the first superfast broadband network covering the whole of a UK region.

Ask4 director Jon Thornhill said the Sheffield company had reached agreement to take over RiPWIRE’s Digital Region client base, but had not taken over the Rotherham company’s other operations.

“Our aim is to make sure RiPWIRE clients don’t lose service and we have the cooperation of Digital Region and Thales to make that happen technically,” said Mr Thornhill. “To all intents and purposes, customers should not notice any change.

“It’s a shame what has happened to RiPWIRE. We want to make sure its customers are looked after and continue to be served by a local company.

Ask4 was founded by former Star Business Young Business Person Award winner, Jonathan Burrows in 2001 to provide high speed internet connections to student accommodation and luxury city-living developments around the country.

The company has since added business and wider residential services to its portfolio, in addition to launching a purpose-built data centre and now lays claim to being the largest Sheffield-based ISP, after PlusNet.

RiPWIRE, based at Fusion@Magna, was set up to provide high speed wireless connections and cloud computing services as well as telephone and data services via the internet.

RiPWIRE could not be contacted.
