Legal way to career advance
Law firm Kennedys is launching a three year apprenticeship scheme at its Sheffield office to create opportunities for a legal career for young people without a degree.
Lead partner Suzanne Liversidge said: “Established sectors such as construction, manufacturing and engineering are strongly associated with apprenticeships, but some of the fastest growing employment fields now include IT and accountancy.
“We are proud to be one of the leading law firms nurturing young talent and helping to develop skills for the legal sector right here in Sheffield.”
The scheme has been set up in partnership with the Institute of Legal Executives Academy, which is also offering a six-year, £7,000 training programme for apprentices as an alternative to the traditional university route into law.
Apprentices will need to have at least eight A* to B grade GCSEs and will be expected to gain at least three A* to B grade at A-level.
Following an initial one-year programme focused on administration and office duties for lawyers, apprentices that pass the Institute of Legal Executives’ legal environment paperwill be able to apply for a two year advanced apprenticeship, which will involve assisting lawyers with cases, carrying out legal research and working with clients.
At the end of three years, the apprentices will become a qualified legal administrator with the firm.
