Another 28 jobs saved at Sheffield tool company

More jobs have been saved at a Sheffield rotary knife and roll manufacturer that can trace its history back more than 175 years.

Attercliffe-based Tempered Tools hit problems when a related business, springmaker TSL Turton, foundered.

Insolvency specialist Abbey Taylor saved 36 jobs at TSL Turton this month by selling the company to Bond Precision Grinding.

Now Abbey Taylor has saved 28 more jobs by selling Tempered Tools to Microblade, the 200-year-old US-owned circular saw manufacturer with operations in Sanderson Street, Attercliffe.

Abbey Taylor says it hopes to save a further 14 jobs at another related company, Taylor & Jones, which lays claim to being the UK’s largest specialist manufacturer of reamers.

The insolvency specialist is also appealing to any companies or individuals that have yet to register they are owed money by the businesses to call 0800 019 6035

Tracy Taylor, from Abbey Taylor, said achieving sales had been complicated by inter-company financial arrangements and wage arrears.

“Some of the employees had six weeks’ arrears of wages,” she said.

Tracy added finding a buyer for Tempered Tools had been particularly challenging as the nature of its work means it needs to provide significant funding for contracts which can take up to six months to recover.
