Mechanical seal manufacturer AES Engineering’s market leading pump business is expanding again.

Rotherham-based AES Engineering’s AESPUMP subsidiary has acquired the Dutch-based pump and valve refurbishment division of James Walker Benelux.

The deal comes a year after AESPUMP bought Sussex-based Absolute Vacuum and six months after acquiring Danish company Ultimate Vacuum.

AES Engineering is the world’s fourth-largest manufacturer of mechanical seals for pumps and other equipment and trades under the AESSEAL name. Earlier this week the group announced it was moving into plant reliability and maintenance after acquiring leading service and engineering consultancy AV Technology.

AESPUMP managing director Ian Wallace said the acquisition of James Walker Pump and Valve Refurbishment clearly illustrated the company’s ambition to grow the pump business not just in the UK, but overseas.

“We are delighted to complete the deal and look forward to the opportunities it will bring,” added Mr Wallace.

National law firm Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office advised AESPUMP on the deal.

Corporate partner Kevin Cunningham said: “This is the company’s second cross border deal and again illustrates not only AESPUMP’s ability to move quickly, but also its drive to expand its European reach”.

AESPUMP was founded in 1997 and serves process industries including the petrochemicals, food and drink and pharmaceuticals sectors.

Sussex-based Absolute Vacuum was created in 1999 and its main expertise is in repairing rotary vane pumps and in rotary high vacuum equipment, while Ultimate Vacuum is a Danish-based supplier of vacuum pumps, spares and other vacuum industry related products and supplies the Scandinavian as well as the Danish market.
