A steel deal for law firm

Commercial law firm Halliwells has been appointed legal adviser to Sheffield Forgemasters.

The alliance cements a 26-year relationship between Forgemasters and corporate partner at Halliwells, Neil Thompson.

Mr Thompson handled various elements of the formation of Forgemasters in 1983, and through the years has acted on key developments in the firm's history such as restructurings, sales and most significantly an innovative management buyout in 2005 which secured the future of more than 600 jobs.

He said: "It's fair to say that I feel like one of the family at Forgemasters and we are honoured to be regarded as trusted advisers to a firm with origins dating back over 200 years."

Halliwells Sheffield office managing partner, Suzanne Liversidge, said: "The Forgemasters' name is synonymous with Sheffield and it is inspiring to see a traditional industry embracing new technology, capitalising on global markets and flying the flag for the UK. We are delighted to be associated with the Forgemasters' tradition and continuing success."

Forgemasters' chief executive Graham Honeyman added: "Neil has a long-standing relationship with Sheffield Forgemasters and a good grasp of the organisation's culture, structure, market direction and business needs, which is crucially important in his role as the company's commercial law adviser."

News of the Forgemasters win follows the recent announcement that Halliwells' Sheffield office has increased its annual fee income by nearly 30 per cent over the past 12 months.

Halliwells has also recently agreed an extension to its current sponsorship deal with Sheffield United FC, meaning that the Halliwells Stand, on the Bramall Lane side of the ground, will continue to carry the firm's logo prominently across the roofline for the next three years.
