Applications have been opened for businesses around South Yorkshire to apply for help from a £23 million cashpot.

The Sheffield City Region JESSICA Fund has been set up to support ‘infrastructure and real estate investment opportunities’.

Loans are provided to companies through the fund which, once repaid, are then loaned out again.

The fund has been created using Government and European Union funding and loans of up to £4.3 million are available.

Any business within the city region - Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, Bolsover, Bassetlaw and the Derbyshire Dales - can apply.

James Newman, chairman of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, which administers the fund, said: “While this fund will not solve every problem or be suitable for every development, it puts in place a significant financial tool to help stimulate the local economy.”
