PLANS have been submitted to Sheffield Council for a £1 million retail development.

The scheme is proposed near the junction with Penistone Road, Hillsborough, for land on Bradfield Road which was formerly an industrial forge owned by Hillfoot Steel. The site has been derelict since 2009 and the old buildings demolished.

Jefferson Sheard Architects and owners of the site TAG Llp have submitted the planning application, which is for two retail units providing 11,000 sq ft of space.

Discussions are ongoing with potential occupiers, including a major food store chain, The Star understands.

A Jefferson Sheard spokeswoman said: “The development is to include retail space, car parking and servicing areas. TAG Llp are currently in discussions with retailers.”

No date has been set by Sheffield Council for a decision on the plans.
