120 jobs face the axe at Sheffield property claims firm

News: Local, national and international news 24-hours a day.

MORE than 100 jobs are at risk at a property claims business in Sheffield because of a restructure at its parent company.

Around 120 roles could be lost at Asprea, based at Pear Street in the city, as insurance firm Aviva has decided to merge its property claim workers and surveyors with other centres in Perth, Scotland, and Southend, Essex.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for Aviva said a full consultation will be launched and the restructure will be complete by the end of next year.

“Following a review of the way we manage our customers’ property claims we have taken the decision to bring our claims management service, Asprea, into our existing property claims centres,” the spokeswoman said.

“This will result in a simpler more streamlined service for our customers during the claims process

“Asprea is a stand-alone business that has property claims employees based at our offices in Pear Street, Sheffield, and field-based staff across the country.

“Today’s announcement means that we will be integrating our desk-based property claims and surveyor roles in Sheffield with our existing property claims centres in Perth and Southend.

“Work in IT HR, and Finance that support these teams will be transferred into the wider Aviva business.

“Unfortunately this means that around 120 roles are currently at risk.”

She added: “We appreciate this is a difficult time for employees and we will be working closely with them to provide the support they need as well as discussing possible re-deployment options with them.

“We plan to have the integration complete by the end of 2013.”

Caroline Cooper, director of property claims at Aviva, said: “Today’s announcement aims to create a simpler service for our household and commercial customers with fewer people involved in the handling of their property claim. But we appreciate this is also a difficult time for our employees and we will be working with them to provide the support they need and will be offering re-deployment opportunities where we can.”
