Bus passes for volunteers

YOUNG volunteers from across Britain and beyond will be on the move in Barnsley thanks to leading bus operator Stagecoach Yorkshire.

Stagecoach has donated free monthly bus passes to 17 volunteers who will be based in the town during the summer as part of a six-month cross-cultural 'Global Xchange' programme.

The volunteers, aged 18 to 25, will live in Barnsley for the three months and contribute more than 6,000 hours of voluntary service to community organisations in the town.

The group - eight from the UK and nine from Mozambique - have just completed three months of voluntary work in Mozambique.

Under the theme 'Inspire to Aspire', the youngsters will work on a number of local projects.
