POLICE are hoping the public can help them identify a man who carried out a vicious attack on another bus passenger between Mexborough and Conisbrough.

They have issued a picture taken from the bus company’s closed-circuit TV system to see if someone can put a name to the face

The man assaulted another man on the Swinton to Conisbrough bus service late at night.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire police said the incident happened on Sunday, May 15, around 11pm.

A 25-year-old local man was on the bus when the suspect got on at a stop in Doncaster Road, Mexborough.

Police say he hit the man in the face for no apparent reason and then got off the bus at Conisbrough, on Doncaster Road just outside the Texaco service station.

Although the man sustained injuries to his face he did not need to go to hospital for treatment.

“This appears to be an unprovoked attack and police are releasing CCTV images of the suspect from the bus,” said a spokesman.

The suspect has short cropped hair and was wearing dark jeans, a white T-shirt, black jacket and white trainers at the time of the attack.

n Anybody who may recognise the man from the images or have information about the incident, is urged to contact the police on 0114 220 2020 quoting incident number 1179 of May 15 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
