A MAN has died after being crushed in a collision near Sheffield city centre.

The 56-year-old man, from Castlebeck in Sheffield, was stood in front of a red Nissan Cabstar pickup truck parked up on the kerb, which was hit by a white single-decker Sheffield Community Transport bus carrying passengers out of the city.

The victim then collided with the Nissan and fell under the truck, where he was trapped and dragged along the road for around 20 metres, suffering fatal injuries.

The accident happened at around 4.10pm yesterday outside an excavation and plant hire yard, around 150 metres north-east of Spital Hill’s junction with Saville Street.

A black Isuzu Rodeo Denver pickup was manoeuvering outside the yard as the bus approached.

A 52-year-old man from Sheffield has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
