Burglary ruins honeymoon

A SHEFFIELD couple today told of their "honeymoon from hell" after a burglar broke into their luxury apartment and stole £1,000 in wedding present cash.

Leanne and Lee Garrity, of Park Grange Mount, Norfolk Park, were honeymooning in a private apartment complex in southern Spain when they were broken into.

The burglar ransacked their apartment in Puerto de la Duquesa, stealing all the cash they had been given as wedding presents, a 400 jacket and a video camera containing footage of their son Brandon's fourth birthday.

It also contained clips taken last Christmas before Leanne's grandfather Thomas Wright died.

The couple, who got married in September, were left devastated.

Care assistant Leanne, aged 24, said: "We had a wonderful wedding day and went on honeymoon the day after for what should have been the best holiday of our lives.

"A lot of guests had kindly put money in their cards for us and because we couldn't get it into the bank before we went away we thought we would take it away with us and really splash out and have the holiday of a lifetime.

"We were so upset when we discovered the burglary. We didn't want to stay any longer and came home the next day with the whole experience ruining what should have been a wonderful time for us."

Leanne said she was particularly upset at losing their video camera.

"The camera itself can be replaced but those images of my son's birthday and my granddad's last Christmas are lost forever and that is really upsetting."

She said: "If anything good can come from this I hope it will remind people just to take travellers cheques with them and never to take tapes with valuable footage on them because they too could lose everything like us."
