Bumpy road set to be smoothed out
LONG-awaited work to improve one of Rotherham's bumpiest roads is set to start later this month.
A major repair scheme will begin on Monday July 13, when work will commence to remove the bumps on the A630 Centenary Way from its junction with Sheffield Road at the Ickles roundabout to south of its junction with Canklow Road.
The work will take up to 30 weeks because of the depth of the excavation required to remove the expanding materials under the road, which are causing the surface deformities.
Motorists are being warned to expect delays.
Ringway Infrastruc-ture Services, who are carrying out the multi-million pound scheme, will be setting up a contraflow system on one carriageway to keep the road open to traffic.
The work, being funded by the Department of Transp-ort, will require some weekend closures at the Ickles roundabout as the scheme progresses. Details will be announced nearer the time.
Coun Richard Russell said: "This is a long-awaited scheme, which will significantly improve the comfort of road users along Centenary Way."
