Oh we do like to be beside the seaside – and 13 South Yorkshire families enjoyed just that thanks for a building firm.
A team of volunteers from Wilmott Dixon Partnerships arranged a trip to the beach for the Rotherham families.
Staff from the repairs and maintenance company’s Rotherham branch organised the coach trip to Scarborough, to celebrate national playday.
Youngsters were treated to an afternoon of activities, including rounders, donkey rides, and a beach safety talk by the RNLI. They then enjoyed fish and chips on the beach. before making good use of the buckets and spades provided by Willmott Dixon.
The activity is part of a UK-wide initiative by Willmott Dixon Partnerships to promote the Playday campaign and highlight the importance of play in children’s lives.
Michael Pearson, Willmott Dixon customer and community officer, said: “This is the third successful trip we have arranged for local families and we’re pleased to be supporting Play England with their Playday initiative.
“The trip took a lot of planning and hard work, but it was all worth it to see the smiles on the children’s faces when they saw the sea.
“It has also brought 13 families together and we hope they have enjoyed the day as much as we did.”
Cath Prisk, Play England director, said: “Play is an essential part of every child’s life and is vital to their emotional and physical development. Research shows that, through play, children learn about themselves and the world around them, develop confidence, self-esteem and creativity.”
