Brute struck woman’s head

A WOMAN was struck over the head in what police believe was an attempted robbery as she walked along a South Yorkshire footpath.

The woman was approached from behind by a man as she walked along a path off Church Street, Cudworth, Barnsley. Police said there was a struggle, and the thug struck the woman over the head before fleeing.

The man was white, in his mid 20s, slim, with a thin pale face. He was wearing a black woolly hat, a short black jacket, black jogging bottoms and black footwear.

The woman had to be treated at Barnsley District General Hospital for minor injuries.
