BROOMHALL SHOOTING: 'We will find you' warning from police to crime gangs

POLICE chiefs today warned gangsters running around Sheffield armed with guns: "We will find you".

Chief Superintendent Paul Broadbent, responsible for the policing of Sheffield, spoke out after the "mindless and reckless" shooting which led to the death of 22-year-old James Kamara on Wednesday night.

He said the young man's death was a waste of life but it was fortunate more weren't killed.

The senior officer said he was determined to get the mob responsible but warned that those involved in such gangs, criminality and carrying weapons "run the risk" of dying young.

He said they put themselves at risk of either getting killed or taking a life themselves and having to live with the consequences.

He said: "The message is quite simple - if you do consider taking the law into your own hands, as has been proved in the past, we will find you.

"I am not prepared to accept or tolerate this kind of conduct. We will pursue the people responsible until justice is done.

"The fact that some individuals think they can come to my city possessing firearms and prepared to use them is something I find deeply disturbing and will not put up with. The message is simple - we will get you.

Detectives are today still looking at possible motives for the attack, including a drugs war and retaliation.

They are looking into the possibility that the location of the attack was important - close to a property which has been repeatedly raided by police officers.

Chf Supt Broadbent added: "These were two gangs in the area at the same time, one of which was obviously determined to inflict serious or fatal injuries on the other and we need to get to find out why.

"I am acknowledging the fact that two criminal groups conducting themselves unlawfully have been involved in this incident and we have the aftermath to deal with."

He insisted Sheffield remains a safe place to live and said Sheffield's gang-related murders are far fewer than other major cities, pointing out that Sheffield has only had eight since 1999.

"It is still eight too many but I am quite prepared to stand tall against any of my counterparts anywhere else in the country, who have figures, facts and statistics that far outweigh and eclipse what we have in Sheffield," he added.

"This was not a random attack. There is no risk or threat to the general public."
