Britain's Got Talent belly dancer heads festival date

A BELLY dancer from Sheffield who wiggled her way into the next round of TV show Britain's Got Talent has been invited to perform at a prestigious festival.

Sophie Mei, aged 20, has been invited by the world-famous Bellydance Superstars to show off her hypnotic moves at this year's Raqs Britannia.

Raqs Britannia is Europe's largest belly dancing festival, which will take place at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool from Friday June 13 to Sunday June 15.

The US-based Bellydance Superstars are headlining the event and have asked Sophie to kickstart their show on the Saturday evening.

"It really is an honour to have been asked to perform at Raqs Britannia, which I have attended every year," said Sophie, from Nether Edge.

"To be on the same stage as the Bellydance Superstars really will be a dream come true."

The Bellydance Superstars are managed by Miles Copeland, former manager of The Police and Sting.

He said: "Sophie is causing quite a storm in the UK and we're delighted to see she is bringing belly dancing into the mainstream, just as the troupe does."
