WORK to complete the rebuilding of Woodseats Road railway bridge in Sheffield could still be completed by the end of the month despite bad weather.
The scheme was supposed to have been finished over the Christmas week, using a 48-hour period when no trains were running to lift the beams for the new bridge into position.
But only half of the structure was completed because of strong winds.
Windy and rainy weather has continued but Network Rail, which is in charge of the £1.7 million project, said it was still ‘hopeful’ work could be finished by the end of January.
The company said because beams over the main tracks are in position, remaining beams can be lifted into place at night without closure of the railway.
But it needs a calm spell of weather to carry out the work.
