Bride-to-be left bald in hair horror

BRIDE-to-be Natalie Trainer was left bald just five weeks before her dream wedding after an attempt to get her hair the right colour went horrifically wrong.

Devastated Natalie, aged 23, had her hair dyed twice within minutes as she tried to achieve the platinum hair colour she craved for her big day.

But disaster struck and chemical burns from the hair dye left Natalie, from Staveley, Chesterfield, with a weeping scalp and just a few tufts of orange hair.

"I want every woman out there to know that they should take a strand test every time they visit a hairdresser," said recruitment manager Natalie, who is due to marry her police officer fianc James Shirley, 25, in five weeks.

"I have naturally blonde hair but I get it dyed or highlighted every few months and have never had a problem before.

"But this time my hair actually fell out. I don't want any woman to have to go through this - it is devastating and humiliating.

"My advice to any girl getting her hair dyed is to have a skin or a strand test beforehand, no matter how many times you've had it done before."

Salon regular Natalie went to get her locks lightened at a hairdressing salon but was disappointed with the dull outcome so nipped round the corner and asked another hairdresser to give it a go.

"When they were putting the dye on I could feel it burning but I was told it needed to be on for 10 minutes," said Natalie, who has chosen a romantic church in her native Scotland as her wedding venue.

"I began screaming because my scalp felt on fire.

"They washed and blow dried my hair and I was horrified - it was bright orange and felt like straw."

When Natalie got outside, clumps of hair started falling out in her hands and her scalp was oozing pus and blood.

Medics at Chesterfield Royal Hospital diagnosed severe chemical burns and told her to avoid the sun - especially while on her two week honeymoon in the Maldives.

"People really need to know that this can happen to anyone, at any time," said Natalie, who is having a wig custom-made for her wedding by a top hairdresser after a TV show heard about her story.

Natalie added: "This has totally shattered my confidence and while I am delighted about having a custom-made wig, I'm still devastated that it won't really be my own hair on my own wedding day."
