LARGER than life actor Brian Blessed’s famous voice boomed out in Sheffield city centre as he launched a new campaign on behalf of a local cats charity.
Brian has teamed up with Feline Friends, based at Old Tupton, Chesterfield, to campaign against a possible Government ban on electronic pet collars, which stop animals straying from back gardens.
The 74-year-old, famous for his roles in sitcom Blackadder and sci-fi film Flash Gordon, pulled up in a campaign bus before greeting fans in Barker’s Pool yesterday evening, encouraging them to sign a petition.
Brian, from Goldthorpe near Mexborough, said: “It’s a humane system which saves pets from horrific injury and death on the roads and spares owners the misery of losing much-loved cats and dogs.”
The collars, already banned in Wales, are used with a perimeter fence. In training, pets receive an electronic pulse when they hear a warning bleep.
