TWO Sheffield men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was left fighting for his life following an attack in Barnsley town centre.
The men, both aged 22, were apprehended after they allegedly attacked two men leaving one of them seriously hurt.
The attack took place in Peel Street close to the junction with Graham’s Orchard at around 2.30am on Sunday morning.
Police say a 19-year old Conisbrough man and a 20 year-old man from Rawmarsh were set upon by the occupants of a blue Audi A4 and a white Vauxhall Combo Van
The driver of the Audi is then believed to have tried to drive off but collided with the 20-year-old who became trapped under the vehicle.
Before police arrived a number of people lifted the car while others pulled the man from beneath it. The man is believed to have suffered fractures to his pelvis and ribs and also sustained serious head injuries.
He is currently detained in Barnsley District General Hospital where his condition is described as “critical”. The 19-year-old suffered facial injuries but did not require hospital treatment.
