A SHEFFIELD newsagent was stabbed in the stomach when he tackled a robber.

The worker, who was on duty at Wiles Newsagents, on Langsett Road, Hillsborough, needed hospital treatment and has now been released.

Police say the incident happened last Friday at 8.30am.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “A male wearing dark clothing and a face covering entered the shop. During the incident, it’s believed a scuffle has taken place, and a man, who was working in the shop at the time, received stab wounds to his stomach. He was conveyed to hospital and was later released following treatment.

“The suspect fled from the shop, and is believed to have headed in the direction of Langsett Crescent. Detectives investigating the incident are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
