A MAN was cut free from his car by firefighters this morning after a collision with a lorry.
Emergency services were alerted to the collision on the A1M between Wadworth and Sprotbrough at 12.10am.
When firefighters arrived the driver of the car was trapped and they had to cut the roof off the vehicle to release him.
He suffered serious chest and head injuries and was taken to hospital.
Another car which was travelling behind the two vehicles involved in the initial impact struck the car but that driver escaped without serious injuries.
The road was closed for a number of hours while crash investigators examined the scene and arrangements were made for the damaged vehicles to be removed.
