A man has died after a raging fire on a Sheffield street.
The man in his 60s was found in a first floor bedroom of a home on Poplar Avenue, Beighton, by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.
The alarm was raised at about 4.10pm this afternoon.
A team of 25 fire fighters in five engines attended the scene - where flames had broken through the roof of the house.
A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Eight firefighters entered the house wearing breathing apparatus to search the property but sadly they found the man, who was in his 60s, on the first floor.
“The house was fire damaged throughout, and an aerial platform was used to damp down the flames from above.”
Fire crews are waiting for representatives from BT to arrive to take down a telegraph pole so they can gain better access to the property as part of their investigation.
Enquiries into the cause of the fire are expected to continue tomorrow in the daylight.
