This photo shows the dramatic moment police officers arrested a motorist, following a car chase on Greens Way, Mexborough.

Eye-witness Peter Baldwin, 46, owner of Pete’s DIY stall at Mexborough market, said: “I’ve been told that the police had been chasing this fellow for hitting other cars for about two hours.

“I heard sirens at about 11am, I ignored it at first but then they were getting louder and louder. When I turned round they were dragging him out of the car and pinning him down. Then he was taken away in one of the cars.

“There were nine police cars here at one point, but it’s all clear now.”

The photo shows three police cars surrounding a red car and it appears three police officers are holding the man to the floor.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “There was a fail to stop on Maple Road, Mexborough, at around 11am that resulted in a short police pursuit that ended on Greens Way at 11.05am. A 26-year-old man has been arrested.”
