A LORRY fire has led to a partial closure of the M1 in South Yorkshire this morning.

The blaze broke out on the northbound stretch of the motorway between Junctions 33 and 34 - Catcliffe and Meadowhall - at 4.45am.

It initially led to the closure of both sides of the motorway as firefighters extinguished the flames, but the southbound stretch re-opened again just after 6am.

Firefighters left the scene at 7.25am but arrangements now need to be made to remove the lorry from the road.
