A HUSBAND has been convicted of murdering his estranged wife by strangling her to death at his South Yorkshire home.

Raymond Billam, aged 63, killed 46-year-old Joy Billam at his house on Guildford Road, Wheatley, Doncaster, during an argument over their divorce proceedings.

Jurors at Sheffield Crown Court heard Joy had got engaged to her new boyfriend the previous day.

After the murder, Billam hid his ex-wife’s body in the boot of her Ford Fiesta, which he parked on Doncaster Road, Goldthorpe.

Following the verdict, Det Chf Insp Sean Middleton, from South Yorkshire Police, said the case was ‘particularly tragic’.

“Raymond Billam is a dangerous man and the court heard how Joy endured his abuse for years,” he said.
