His devastated friends and family have left floral tributes at the scene today.

One of those was pal Connor McMaster, aged 20, who described Jordan as a 'nice young lad' who was popular in the area.

He added: "He was well liked in the area. Everyone is in shock, you never expect this to happen to someone you know.

"He was a big Sheffield Wednesday fan and I went to a few games with him."

Mr McMaster added that he first heard about it before leaving for work at 7am this morning.

He added: "I'm devastated. Jordan lived in the area all of his life. I've known him for years.

"I think he lived in the flat alone. I don't know why someone would do such a thing, he didn't have any arguments with anyone as far as I know."

A floral tribute from 'Auntie Jo' read: "To Jordan, love you, miss you.." Another read: "I love you so much, you will be missed."

Abraxa Nicholson added: "RIP Jordan Hill - what a terrible shame and waste of a life."

Rhianna Whiteley, aged 25, who lives in the block of flats nextdoor, said: "I didn't hear anything, I just saw the police and the cordon this morning.

"I only moved in a month ago so it's a bit scary."

Her friend Natalie Searle, aged 17, added: "It's really upsetting. I didn't know him but I have seen him around. It must be awful for his family."

Brian Castleton, aged 67, claimed the area has got worse in terms of crime in the 60 years he has lived there.

He said: "Longley used to be the city's most sought after council estate. But things have got worse in the last few years. You are always hearing about murders and what not in Sheffield - I'm not sure what's going on. It's concerning because you don't want it on your doorstep."

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
