BREAKING: Fatal crash victim named
POLICE have today named the car passenger who died during a police pursuit along the M1 motorway near Chesterfield.
Steven Bellerby, aged 25, of Peterlee, County Durham, was in the back of a Vauxhall Corsa which ran off the road and down an embankment at junction 29a at 2am yesterday.
The vehicle was being followed by a police car along the northbound carriageway of the motorway after failing to stop when officers requested.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and theft of a vehicle - a 31-year-old from Southampton and a 26-year-old from County Durham.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
