A CHESTERFIELD bobby is taking a break from the beat to raise money for charity by taking on the SAS in the Brecon Beacons.

PC Mick Hellewell, of Dunston, Moor and St Helen’s Safer Neighbourhood Team, is taking on the ‘Fan Dance’ endurance test to raise funds for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, near Sheffield, and SANDS, a charity which supports people affected by stillbirth and neo-natal death.

PC Hellewell will climb approximately 4,500ft from the bottom to the top of Pen-y-Fan, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons as quickly as possible carrying a 30lb rucksack tomorrow.

He said: “Last year some friends of mine lost their young son to an illness which he had fought throughout his short life.

“He was cared for by Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and I wanted to help support the great work they do with terminally ill children.”
