Brass fanfare of success
A BRASS band from Barnsley has qualified for a national championship after winning the Yorkshire regionals.
Worsbrough Brass Band completed a major upset by beating 11 other bands, including the acclaimed Dinnington Colliery Band, to take first place in the fourth section of the Yorkshire Regional Brass Band Championships.
It was only their second appearance in as many years.
Worsbrough Brass will now take part in the Great Britain championships at Harrogate International Centre in September.
Paul Gillow, chair of Worsbrough Brass, said: "This is a real boost for the band and for Barnsley. We hope to be able to keep bringing the trophies back to Barnsley for many years to come."
