A BOY aged 11 was seriously injured after being hit by a car as he tried to cross a road.
The youngster was struck on Cross Lane, Royston, Barnsley, by a red Peugeot 306 driven by a 22-year-old man from Wakefield.
He was travelling towards Barnsley at the time of the collision, close to the junction with Bisley Close.
Police said the schoolboy suffered head injuries and bruising, and was taken to Sheffield Children’s Hospital for treatment.
The Peugeot driver was unharmed in the collision at around 5.40pm on Friday.
Police closed the road while they deal with the incident, and an investigation into the circumstances is underway.
