A SHEFFIELD youngster was airlifted to hospital after damaging his back and chest when he fell down an embankment.
The 11-year-old was on the Monsal Trail in the Peak District when he fell near to Litton Tunnel at Litton Mill.
Volunteers from Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams were called to help rescue the boy, who had fallen 8m.
He was treated at the scene by an East Midlands Ambulance Service paramedic before he was placed on a stretcher and pulled up the embankment by the mountain rescue teams and Derbyshire firefighters.
The boy was then carried 400m to a helicopter before he was airlifted to Sheffield Children’s Hospital for further medical treatment.
Neil Carruthers, of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, said: “This was a joint operation involving mountain rescue, fire service, ambulance service and the air ambulance.
“The close co-operation led to effective team working which ensured a successful outcome to this incident”.
The alarm was raised on Friday, shortly before 2.30pm.
