UKIP has calculatedly underplayed its hand in this election. It talks about the EU costing us £55 million a day but I suspect that if they had given the full picture (revealed by the Taxpayers’ Alliance) no-one would have believed the figures which exceed £120bn annually.
Much of this is not recoverable of course, as it comes from businesses having to enforce EU regulation.
If these kinds of figures are anywhere near accurate, it is not surprising that the EU as an election issue has been wantonly removed from agendas and debates.
