Booking essential! Thousands sign up to Sheffield alpaca walk after event goes viral on Facebook

Holly Hagg farm in Sheffield offers customers the unique experience of leading one of its six alpacas along Sheffield's Rivelin Valley.

Adults and children can hand feed the alpaca and take photos with the animal for £15 per person with walks starting at 12pm every Sunday.

However, in a post on Facebook, the farm has now warned customers not to turn up tomorrow unless they have already booked.

This is after the event went viral on Facebook, with 2,700 people declaring an interest in the event and 664 people saying that they were going.

Posting on Facebook, Holly Hagg said: "PLEASE DO NOT JUST TURN UP TO A WALK - BOOKING ONLY AS WE HAVE JUST 6 ALPACAS!

"You might have seen from the responses that we've had an incredibly large number of people interested. Please don't turn up tomorrow unless you've booked!

"Because of the demand we are booked up for the next few weeks but if you send an email address to [email protected] we will put you on the email list."

The farm revealed that they were shortly going to launch an online booking system with "lots of new walk dates" and would update customers when this goes live.

Claire Gregory, chief organiser at Holly Hagg farm said she was shocked when the event they posted on Facebook last week went viral.

She said: "Our six adorable alpacas are part of our land management but we've recently started running treks for the public which help to fund our work in giving people access to nature and encouraging food growing and traditional skills.

"Last week we posted a couple of Facebook events, hoping to attract a few customers but this one went viral!

"The two events have 1K people saying they are going and 4K interested! As a result we are fully booked up to mid-April doing three walks a week.

"We just hope we don't get hundreds of people turning up who haven't booked as I'm afraid they are going to be disappointed!"
