Boob job mum harassed by pub landlord
A BARMAID who had a "boob job" and was sexually harassed by her South Yorkshire pub landlord boss is unlikely to see a penny in compensation.
Mandy Butler was yesterday awarded 13,000 damages by an employment tribunal but former publican Stephen Hughes has now left the country.
The pub manager bombarded the married mother-of-four with crude, sexually suggestive remarks.
Mr Hughes said of her breasts: "I can't believe you have spent 3,500 on them and won't let me have a feel."
Mrs Butler, aged 43, was awarded a total of 13,204.88 in compensation after winning her claim for sex discrimination, sexual harassment and unfair dismissal against Mr Hughes and the company which formerly owned the pub.
Neither Mr Hughes or the pub company turned up for the remedy hearing.
Mrs Butler - whose husband Simon, 34, stepped in four years ago and paid for the op as a present - said she had been "traumatised" at the behaviour of her sex pest boss at The Paddock pub in Cantley, Doncaster.
She told the tribunal she believed Mr Hughes was now living in Gibraltar and new owners had taken over the running of the pub. It had been impossible to contact him.
In making the award, tribunal chairman Richard Williams said: "This wasn't just a one-off incident by Mr Hughes. This went on for a period even after the claimant told him to desist and that she didn't appreciate his advances."
Mrs Butler, who lives near the pub and worked part-time as a barmaid as well as a support worker for children, was sacked without warning after rowing with a customer and slapping him across the face.
Mr Hughes accepted the dismissal was unfair but denied making inappropriate sexual remarks to Mrs Butler.
In its judgment, the tribunal decided Mr Hughes had made "crude and sexual" references and he had "strayed beyond what could be generally described as crude banter".
Employment Judge Richard Williams concluded: "The conduct about which she complained did violate her dignity and amounted to sexual harassment."
After the hearing, Mrs Butler said: "I'm very happy with the outcome but I realise there is little chance of me receiving any financial compensation."
