'Bombers' on target in Sheffield - PICTURES
A SPLASHING time was had by all when the World Water Bombing Championships arrived in Sheffield last night.
The fifth annual event, organised in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, saw 16 teams of four don fancy dress and attempt to create the biggest splash by launching themselves off a diving board into the Olympic-sized pool.
Local teams to take part included the S-pies girls from Eric Twigg Foods in Rotherham, 1Click Print in Dinnington, and Midflight Crisis from Kier lifts in Sheffield.
Steve Ayres, from Midflight Crisis, who performed his dive bomb dressed as Santa Claus, said: "It was such a laugh - people from work get involved and everyone who came along to watch had a great time."
Prizes were awarded by the judges for the best water bombing team, best individual bomber and best fancy dress, with crowds turning out to show their support.
Organisers were hoping to beat last year's fundraising total of 4,000, all of which goes to the charity's work supporting cancer patients and their families.
Macmillan fundraiser Rebecca Staden said: "It was a fantastic event and really entertaining.
"All the money raised will help fund vital Macmillan services to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer and their families.
"Time and time again patients report that Macmillan's help is vital at a time of great stress and that Macmillan gives them the confidence and hope to carry on with their lives despite cancer. It is only thanks to
Macmillan supporters that the charity is able to make this difference."
